ME, YOU AND

A one-day training focusing on cultural
diversity
Learning about differences in customs and
beliefs is the beginning of a journey toward building trust, cross cultural communication
and competence. It is a way to learn to deliver services and to connect with culturally
different individuals on a deeper level. It is critical to keep in mind that all
individuals, children, and families are unique; although they may be influenced by their
ethnic, cultural, and language backgrounds, they are not fully defined by them. Our goal
of cultural learning is insight, not stereotype.
Participants will look at research;
participate in self-examination, share experiences and brainstorm solutions as they begin
to crumble barriers and gain cultural competence.

Nurturing
Families Through Divorce
Divorce is a painful,
confusing experience for children of all ages. Over 50% of all marriages in the U.S. end
in divorce and 70% of todays children will spend part of their childhood in a single
parent home. Do you feel prepared to provide the support and tools for the parents and the
children who are affected by divorce? PPE has added a new one-day training for parent
educators and counselors. The focus of the training will be on the children, with the goal
of providing the insight necessary to prevent children from suffering long term damaging
effects of divorce.
How can we best support the children of
divorce?
- Help children express their feelings and
concerns regarding the changes in their family
- Recognize the signs of children who are in
distress
- Facilitate a long-lasting, meaningful
relationship with both parents
- Awareness of parental behaviors that
damage children
- Share ideas for successful co-parenting
